About Cartersville

The city of Dallas, Georgia is located in Paulding County in the Upland South region of the country. Dallas is the county seat of Paulding County and has the city motto of “A premier hometown.” The area has a wonderful humid subtropical climate with generally mild winters with rare snow flurries and hot wet summers. The city is kind of small to mid-sized ranking as the 79th largest community in the state. The city has been home to many notable people such as country music stars Travis Tritt and Patty Loveless, MLB pitcher Zack Wheeler and AFL wide receiver Chris Conley and punk rocker Jayne County.

The area that would one day be Dallas, Georgia was a part of the Cherokee nation. In December of 1832 Paulding county, home to the community of Dallas, was formed along with nine other counties. Also, in 1832 the Gold Lottery brought many settlers into the area to win 40 acre “gold lots.” Early crops grown in the area were cotton, sheet, tobacco and corn. The community remained small for many years until the county seat was moved from Van Wert to Dallas in 1851. The city was incorporated in 1854 and named after Vice-President of the United States, George M. Dallas who served under James K. Polk. Dallas has a place in pop culture as the home to the real WKRP radio station which was located just west of the center of the community for many years.

The United States Census of 2010, reported that Dallas, which spans 4.5 square miles, was home to 11,544 residents giving the city a population density of 1,123.6 people per square mile. The local economy is fairy evenly split between white collar and blue collar endeavors featuring sales, service jobs, office work, professionals and more. According to city-data.com the estimated median household income in 2012 was $37,943 and the estimated per capita income was 17,585. The site further reports that the the estimated median house or condo value in the city in 2012 was $99,539, the mean price of housing units was $142,825 and the median gross rent was $784.

Public education in Dallas is provided by the Paulding County School District, which is made up of five high schools, nine middle schools and nineteen elementary schools. Sara Babb Park is located in Dallas and features bicycle trails, various sport courts and fields, a swimming pool, playground, grill areas and more. Silver Comet Trail runs through Dallas providing opportunities for hiking, biking and exploring the history of the area and the railroad that crossed it. Homes for sale in Dallas are primarily of the middle class variety, but do range from starter homes up through luxury homes.
